Blogging tips
Getting More Views and Traffic Everyone wants traffic to their blog, thats why you write isn’t it. If you think you’re having trouble getting traffic to your site here are a few things that might help. Your friends and family Everyone has at least 20-30 friends and/or family members they can persuade to read their blog. It is even more so in the green community because we are all out to spread the same message. Send a personal invite to everyone you know telling them about your blog at greenpress. Explain to them why you are writing, and invite them to check it out. Send them reminder emails when you update your blog. Read and comment on other blogs Find other blogs that interest you. You can use a variety of differnt sites to search for blogs that interest you. We suggest: Google Blog Search, Best Green Blogs, and Sphere. Then subscribe to their blog using using an RSS reader like Bloglines. When you see an article that interests you click through to their site and leave a comment with your thoughts. Social Media Now days just about everyone has either a facebook and/or twitter account. These are both powerful tools for marketing your blog. You can use facebook to create a fan page of your blog and invite your friends to join. Join groups that share your common interests. Follow people, groups, and organizations on twitter with common goals and interests. Build a personal relationship with them by posting interesting content and twitting frequently. Drop links to your blog to draw people in. Link to other blogs As much as you enjoy getting links to interesting articles so does every one else. (Isn’t that what blogging is all about anyway, connecting people) When you link to another bloggers blog, they’ll often find your blog and at least check it out. If they find you interesting they may even subscribe to you and comment on your posts. Use appropriate tags Attach appropriate categories and tags to your entries and people may find your blog through those. Be careful not to use too many tags though — between 5 and 10 tags (or categories or both) is a good number. Blog your little heart out! Blogs that have more frequent and regular posting schedules seem to develop an audience quicker. People love new content! Have a passionate voice, be controversial Blogging has traditionally been about strong voices, people enjoying reading folks who have strong opinions and back them up. A little controversy never hurt either. Out of all the bloggers out there we of all people have something we are passionate about. Use your blog to be a strong voice for the green movement! Chill…Be Patient Even if you do all of the above religiously, don’t expect to gain a huge following overnight. Like anything worth while, building a good audience takes time. Many of the bloggers you probably admire have been at it for at least a year. Stick with it, and don’t get discouraged by a slow start, everyone starts slow. Get Personal Remember size isn’t everything. Love the followers you have, take care of them. Comment back and interact. Nothing beats gaining a personal connection to your followers. Posts Posts are entries that display in reverse chronological order (newest to oldest) on your blog’s front page. Posts are included in category lists, archives, and feeds. Posts are always associated with a date, which is included in the URL.
